My Story

I have always had a passion for animals. I knew from a young age that veterinary medicine was my destiny. Since then I haven’t looked back!

I attended the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and enjoyed every minute of it. I took every opportunity I could to add electives in equestrian studies, and helped out at the equine hospital.  Senior year allowed several 3 week rotations in private practice and other veterinary schools. I made the most of it by learning from the best in the country including:

· Blue Ridge Equine Clinic with Dr. Reynolds Cowles

· Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical center in Ringos NJ

Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine (in house internal medicine) and at their renowned Equine Reproduction Center, which was headed by Ed Squires at the time, where veterinarians are at the forefront of reproductive medicine, such as embryo transfer and splitting 1 oocyte to produce 2 foals.

· Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center founded by Dr. Doug Herthel, where they offer the most advanced medical, surgical and regenerative medicine, and diagnostic imaging. They were the first to start with stem cell research, and designed Platinum Performance.

After graduation, I accepted an internship at Millbrook Equine Veterinary clinic in NY. There I was able to experience so much from assisting with a C-section of a mare, critical care of neonates, soundness support for high level athletes of several disciplines, and assisted with colic surgeries. It was an incredible experience which strengthened my skills and added to my education of private practice for the Equine.

In 1998, I was recruited to this area and was privileged to continue learning with Dr. Francie Luther. During this time, I really learned valuable skills such as evaluating the entire horse as a whole, and learning new diagnostic and treatment options, including acupuncture. In 2005, I was ready to open my own practice, Horizon Equine Veterinary Practice, a place where I could continue my passion for helping horses and helping owners grow in their knowledge to make the best decisions to help their horses.

I believe both horse and owner deserve compassionate, professional and the highest quality of care, which is exactly what I provide. I enjoy building a professional relationship with each and every client as I treat their horse as if it were my own.
